From Student to Teacher: Reflecting On My BikramYoga Journey

Being Back At Teacher Training For My Recertification Has Me Reflecting On How My Journey With Bikram Yoga Began.

It’s funny because, despite practicing for over 10 years, I was far from consistent. I’d go to class about once a week and often took breaks that lasted anywhere from three to six months. Yet, no matter how long I stayed away, I always came back. Something about Bikram Yoga kept pulling me in, even when I hadn’t fully uncovered what that “something” was.  😅

IN THE IMAGINE, THE SENTENCE: USUALLY, I PRACTISED ABOUT ONCE A WEEK
AND SOMETIMES I EVEN TOOK THREE MONTS OFF.

The Call to Teacher Training

From the very beginning, my teacher always said, “Join a yoga teacher training — it will change your life.”

I held on to those words for years. But like many of us, I never had the time or money to make it happen. Life kept moving, and I kept putting the decision off. There were always reasons — responsibilities, finances, timing.

Then came a turning point. I hit a very low moment in my life, where everything felt uncertain and heavy. It was in that space of vulnerability that I finally chose to go for it — to attend a teacher training. 🙏

It might sound cliché, but my teacher was right — it truly changed my life. What felt like a risk at the time became one of the most empowering, healing, and transformative experiences I’ve ever had.

A Deep Dive Into Bikram Yoga

During the training, I discovered that Bikram Yoga is truly the key to the kingdom of health. I also began to understand why the hot room matters so deeply. The more I learned, the more I understood how profound and transformative the practice really is. At first, I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to teach; I just wanted to deepen my own practice. But as the weeks passed, I discovered a passion for sharing this practice with others. The thought of helping others experience the benefits of Bikram Yoga was exhilarating. 🤩

Exploring Other Yoga Styles

After completing my teacher training, I felt a deep desire to broaden my understanding of yoga as a whole. I wanted to explore how Bikram Yoga compared to other popular styles like Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Kundalini, and Yin Yoga.

For a while, I practiced Bikram Yoga five times a week to uncover its benefits while also trying various other styles like Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Kundalini, and Yin Yoga.

This journey of exploration gave me a much clearer perspective on the different approaches to yoga. Every style had its own unique energy and purpose, but no matter where I went, Bikram Yoga always felt like home — grounding, powerful, and transformative.
