Why The Hot Room?

Why Do We Practice In A Hot Room?

If you’ve ever stepped into a Bikram Yoga class, you’ve probably noticed one thing straight away: it’s HOT. And if you’ve been wondering why we practice in such high heat, you’re not alone. In fact, this is probably one of the most common questions I receive. So, my love, let’s explore why we choose to practice in such a hot and humid environment…

What Is The Hot Room?

First things first: what is a hot room? In Bikram Yoga, the studio is heated to between 38°C and 40°C, with a humidity level of around 40%. A fun fact that many people don’t know is that the Hot Room is actually designed to mimic the climate of India, which is the birthplace of yoga. Practicing in a warm, humid environment is one of the most natural and supportive ways to allow your body to sink deeper into the poses.

So… how does that work? Let’s break down some of the key benefits.

🧘‍♀️ Greater Flexibility

Heat allows your muscles to soften and stretch more easily, which means you can move deeper into poses with less risk of injury. Over time, this leads to improved mobility and flexibility.

💧 Improved Circulation

The warmth helps to open up your blood vessels, allowing more oxygen and nutrients to move through your body. This supports not only your muscles and heart, but also overall energy levels.

🍃 Natural Detoxification

When you sweat, your body is releasing what it no longer needs. The Hot Room promotes deep, cleansing sweat, which supports your body’s natural detoxification process and leaves you feeling light and clear afterwards. Curious about what’s fact vs. myth? Read 5 misconceptions about Bikram Yoga.

💖 Discipline & Inner Strength

Bikram Yoga can be challenging… But that’s part of the magic. Learning to stay present and focused in the heat builds mental resilience, discipline, and a strong mind body connection that affects other areas of your life as well. 🌞 Stress Release & Presence

There’s something really calming about surrendering to the heat, focusing on your breath, and letting go of any distractions. Many students find that the Hot Room becomes a space for mental clarity and emotional release, helping them to stay in the present moment.

Whether you’re just starting your Bikram journey or have been practicing for years, The Hot Room is a place for transformation where you learn so much about yourself that you can implement in other areas of your life. Next to the many different physical benefits, it’s a catalyst for strength, clarity and resilience… And I still learn so much from my practice every single day.
